Exploring the Life and Career of Tamil Actress Vanitha Vijayakumar

Vanitha Vijayakumar: A Journey Through Triumphs and Turbulence

Vanitha Vijayakumar

Vanitha Vijayakumar, born on October 5, 1979, is a notable Indian actress recognized primarily for her contributions to the Tamil film and Television industry.

Early Life

Vanitha is the eldest daughter of renowned Tamil actor Vijayakumar and his second wife, the acclaimed Tamil actress Manjula. Her family includes two younger sisters, Preetha and Sridevi, both of whom were former actresses. She also has half-siblings from her father’s previous marriage to Muthukannu Vellalar, including actor Arun Vijay, Anitha, and Kavitha.

In September 2018, Vanitha made headlines due to a public dispute with her family. The conflict arose when she refused to vacate a family property she had initially rented for a shoot in Ashtalakshmi Nagar. This led to her father, Vijayakumar, filing a police complaint against her.

Career

Debut in Cinema (1995–1999)

Vanitha’s debut in acting began opposite Vijay in the film “Chandralekha” (1995), directed by Nambirajan. Despite facing challenges like the absence of caravans during filming, the movie received mixed reviews and did not fare well at the box office, impacting Vanitha’s career. She then appeared alongside Rajkiran in “Manikkam” (1996), followed by roles in the Malayalam film “Hitler Brothers” (1997) and the Telugu fantasy film “Devi” (1999). As film offers dwindled, Vanitha transitioned to working as a costume designer for her sister Preetha’s films. She also served as an assistant director to P. Vasu during the making of “Kakkai Siraginilae” (2000). Following her first marriage to Akash, Vanitha took a hiatus from the film industry.

Reentry into Cinema (2013–2015)

Vanitha made a brief comeback in the mid-2010s, with roles in “Naan Rajavaga Pogiren” (2013) and “Summa Nachunu Irukku” (2013). She then ventured into production with the film “MGR Sivaji Rajini Kamal” (2015), which she also acted in. The film, produced under her banner Vanitha Film Production, faced commercial challenges. Vanitha filed a police complaint against the distribution studio for not fulfilling their contract. Facing a lack of film offers and criticism, she decided to take a break from acting.

Recognition in Tamil Television (2019–present)

In 2019, Vanitha gained attention for her appearance on the Tamil reality show “Bigg Boss Tamil 3” on Star Vijay. Though she was the second contestant eliminated, fan requests led to her return as a wild card entry. She later won season 1 of the Tamil cooking show “Cooku with Comali” in 2020.

Vanitha also participated in the spin-off “Bigg Boss Ultimate” (season 1) and made cameo appearances in the Zee Tamil soap opera “Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal.”

Personal Life

Vanitha’s personal life has seen several twists and turns. She married actor Akash in 2000, with whom she has a son and daughter. The marriage ended in divorce in 2005 after a custody dispute. Her son eventually stayed with his grandfather and then with his father.

In 2007, Vanitha married businessman Anand Jay Rajan, resulting in a daughter. However, the marriage ended in 2012, with Rajan gaining custody of their child. Vanitha attributed their divorce partly to disputes with her father. Following her separation from Rajan in 2010, she dated choreographer Robert from 2013 to 2017.

Vanitha, born Hindu to Tamil parents, converted to Buddhism in March 2022 after a series of religious rituals. She has openly discussed battling depression for over a decade, seeking medical treatment and counseling for recovery.

Off-Screen Ventures

In 2021, Vanitha launched her clothing store, “Vanitha Vijayakumar Styling,” in Chennai. Additionally, she works part-time as a costume designer.
