Anoop Krishnan: A Journey from TV Actor to Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 3 Contestant

Anoop Krishnan

Anoop Krishnan, born on May 7, 1990, is a multifaceted Indian television actor, director, and anchor who has carved a niche for himself in the Malayalam film industry. Widely recognized for his role as Kalyan in the popular television series Seetha Kalyanam, Anoop further solidified his fame by participating in the third season of the reality TV show Bigg Boss Malayalam. His journey from a small-town boy to a household name is both inspiring and remarkable.

Early Life and Education

Anoop Krishnan was born to Unnikrishnan K and K. M Shobhana Devi in Pattambi, Palakkad, Kerala. He grew up alongside his siblings, Akhilesh Krishnan and Akhila Krishnan. Anoop’s educational journey began at AUP School in Muthuthala, followed by high school at PHS Pallippuram. He completed his vocational higher secondary education at VHSE Koppam and graduated with a B.A in Literature from SNGS & Co-Operative College, Pattambi.

Personal Life

On January 23, 2022, Anoop married his long-time girlfriend, Dr. Aishwarya Nair, in a traditional ceremony held at the Guruvayur Temple. This personal milestone was celebrated by his fans and well-wishers, marking a new chapter in his life.

Career Beginnings and Challenges

In 2010, Anoop was selected for the movie Face in Facebook, directed by Jibin George James. Unfortunately, the project was not completed due to technical reasons. This setback did not deter Anoop; instead, he transitioned to anchoring live stage shows. Over the years, he anchored more than 80 stage shows, including prominent events such as Malabar Maholtsavam, DTPC Onam fest, and the National Games closing ceremony.

Breakthrough and Recognition

Anoop’s big break came when he was cast in two movies alongside the legendary actor Mammootty—Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus (2013) and Praise the Lord (2014). Although these roles did not bring him significant attention, they paved the way for future opportunities.

In 2014, Anoop’s mentor, music director Sunny Viswanath, introduced him to Padma Shri Balachandra Menon. This connection led to an opportunity to assist Menon on his comeback movie Njan Samvidhanam Cheyyum (2015). During this time, Anoop was also selected for a lead role in the Sanskrit movie Ishti, directed by G. Prabha. His dedication to the role was evident as he learned Kathakali Padam, crafted Kathakali ornaments, and lost 11 kg to fit the character. Ishti received national and international recognition, allowing Anoop to walk the red carpet at the Indian Panorama of IFFI held in Goa in 2016.

Transition to Television and Major Success

By 2015, Anoop had started creating short music videos, documentaries, and short films. His documentary Raise of Hope, focused on kidney disease awareness, received critical acclaim. He continued to play minor roles in movies such as Sarvopari Palakkaran (2017), Ennaalum Sarath..? (2018), and Contessa (2018). In 2017, he gained attention for his role in the commercial movie Ammamarathanalil, where he underwent a physical transformation to portray a middle-aged character.

In 2018, director Sunil Kariattukara cast Anoop in the television serial Seetha Kalyanam on Asianet and Hotstar. His portrayal of Kalyan won him widespread appreciation, and his on-screen chemistry with actress Dhanya Mary Varghese was celebrated. The pair received the Asianet Television Award for Best Pair in 2019, and Anoop was nominated for Best Actor and Popular Actor categories.

Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 3

Anoop’s popularity soared when he participated in the third season of Bigg Boss Malayalam in 2021. Hosted by the superstar Mohanlal, the show provided Anoop with a platform to showcase his real personality and win the hearts of the audience. He emerged as the 4th Runner-Up, further cementing his place in the entertainment industry.
